FEEDBACK : MEMBERS OF MORPHINE 05.28.10

MEMBERS OF MORPHINE

aka

THE [ever expanding] ELASTIC WASTE BAND

@ THE MAGIC BAG

May 28, 2010

pretty skeptical going into this show. wondering how this would be without the late great Mark Sandman... and it was quite enjoyable. it took the crowd a few songs to really start feeling the vibe. 2/3 of their set were morphine jams and the other third was new originals [and perhaps a cover?]. Dana Colley and Jerome Dupree were quite comfortable jamming the old tunes with Jeremy Lyons. Dana made sure to give Mark his due credit after every morphine tune they played. the EWB material was good and it fit inside the morphine set. i would recommend any fan of morphine to check out this lineup. i will tell you one thing though. the magic bag SUCKS. i have been to about 500 shows spanning over a decade and a half, and i rate this venue with the bottom-of-the-barrel. notoriously bad sound. [luckily the band brought their own engineer on tour] totally over-staffed. and it seemed like everyone who works there had an ice pick shoved in their rectum.

setlist:

[i'm not sure of the names of the EWB tunes so i'm just going to put 'EWB song' instead of the title. if anyone has the info please contact me and i will update the setlist]

FEEDBACK : DEFTONES 05.21.10

DEFTONES

@ The Orbit Room

May 21, 2010

SOLD OUT.

ok. here it goes... my 23rd deftones show is in the bag. [my third time seeing them @ the orbit room] and it is definitely in the top 10! around midnight the night before the show the official deftones twitter posted that they needed a local opener for the show. i immediately sent an email to my friends in bahamut letting them know about the chance... low and behold... less than 12 hours later they were confirmed as the opening act! hand picked from all the submissions by chino himself! it was surreal. they warmed up the crowd to a mixed reaction. there were a few haters [to the cunt with the finger problem... i'm sorry to hear about your syphilis.] but they opened up a few mosh-pits [which helped me get right up to the barrier in front of sergio] and some people were digging them for sure. all these people really wanted was deftones to melt their faces off.
and at about 9:05 they did just that. coming out fully on their a-game they tore into 'rocket skates' to set it off, and set it off they did! living up to their namesake that shit was LOUD and they had super high energy up there. the song selection was suburb. sergio is a perfect fit. abe was sick tight on the kit. chino was running around like it was 1998! the new material sounded fantastic. [could have something to do with their writing process for diamond eyes... hmm.] a full 2 hour set with some great rarities. [can't tell you the last time i heard 'when girls telephone boys' and 'birthmark'!] would have liked to have something different besides 'back to school' maybe 'teething' or 'can't even breathe'?? and 'headup' would have been an excellent choice instead of '7 words' as the closer. [seeing as chino is tired of playing that song] but don't get me wrong, they still crushed it.
luckily i was surrounded by some true fans on the barrier. [brad marshall get at me dude!!] behind me, the crowd i'm sure was hella into it. there was a pretty steady flow of crowd surfers going over our heads [when will venues stop allowing that shit??] but the security did a great job keeping them off of our heads [for the most part] and keeping us hydrated. kudos to those guys. the crowd was constantly throwing things towards the stage and/or into the crowd. i saw: multiple hats, shirts, a yellow raincoat, a full purse, cell phones, and FULL beers. i personally want to find who was throwing those full beers and castrate that douchebag. especially when one landed on my head and SOAKED my camera right as birthmark was starting. i hadn't had a good barrier ride like that in a long time and it felt great. [didn't feel so good the next day and in fact i still have bruises] all for the love of the 'tones. getting back so late cost me waking up to buy tickets to deftones show #24 right when the switch was flipped. but you know i will be there regardless! one love for chi.

MELISSA AUF DER MAUR - OUT OF OUR MINDS

melissa auf der maur's second full length following 2004's aptly titled: 'auf der maur'. she went for the full audio/visual experience with this one. there will be a dvd, comic book and other assorted goodies to coincide the release. there are some serious collectors edition sets of this album available on her website.

check out the video for the title track:

SLASH

also dropping tomorrow is the new album from guitar virtuoso, rif king and g n' r founding member SLASH. i'm going to do a bit of name-dropping right now... ozzy osbourne, dave grohl, chris cornell, lemmy kilmeister, iggy pop and um... fergie. also drummer josh freese plays on the record [so you know the drums will be masterful] and many more rock n' roll notables. if there isn't something you're even kind-of into there, you shouldn't be reading NOIZEBLEED.

watch a really cool trailer for the album:

FEEDBACK: HIM 04.02.10

HIM
@ clutch cargo's
april 2, 2010

so my original feedback review was going to be for another band on this tour. dommin. but they had to cancel their michigan appearance due to kristofer dommin contracting some sort of laryngitis. so this will be brief.
i admittedly had fallen off the him wagon after dark light so i wasn't too familiar with the newer material. the crowd seemed into it. i saw some girls booty-dancing to the music which i thought was strange. ville valo was very talkative [although i could hardly understand any of his ramblings]. there were many bras and panties thrown up on stage during the set. which the band seemed to enjoy. and a first for me... he didn't smoke cigarettes the entire time. good for you ville. now just grow some hair again so you don't look like a emaciated cancer patient.

setlist:

like st. valentine
right here in my arms
wings of a butterfly
heartkiller
kiss of dawn
join me
love the hardest way
wicked game
buried alive by love
disarm me [with your loneliness]
killing loneliness
poison girl

FEEDBACK: STONE TEMPLE PILOTS 03.31.10

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS
@ the fillmore detroit
march 31, 2010

will the sober weiland please show up? those were my thoughts going into last night's show at the fillmore. after reading the blog-o-sphere yammering about his inability to finish songs, let alone stand upright recently. i was very curious about how the night would go.

but first... let me take you back to june of 2008. stp at the fillmore. this show was knock-you-on-your-ass good. weiland was ON. wily and energetic, prancing around like some kind of ancient egyptian tweaker. the setlist was epic, the band was tight and they were all having fun. the crowd was all good energy and everyone seemed like they were rocking out for their lives. great show!

less than two years later. same venue.

the house lights are on and mew's 'and the glass handed kites' was blaring through the speakers. someone walks out on stage up to the mic stand and stars blathering incoherently into it. about 20 seconds later the mew stops and the house lights drop and the band walks out. apparently that guy was weiland. way to make an entrance. so the band starts grooving into 'vasoline' and it's almost immediately obvious to me that something is off. weiland can't keep up. the song is going at it's normal pace and the crowd is singing where the lyrics should be and scott is a measure behind. so dean signals robert and eric and they make a quick adjustment to get to where scott was lyrically. not good. and that's pretty much how it went. he had almost no energy onstage. a complete 180 from two years ago. he kept taking his ear monitors out then back in. which didn't help at all. i could see the band giving each other looks during the set like 'what the fuck'. i actually felt really bad for them. the sound guys took the vocals down in the mix because he sounded like some dunk karaoke singer. so the crowd pretty much drowned him out. and the crowd... was pretty wasted i felt. also i really think the majority didn't even notice what was happening. i saw some people looking around like 'what is going on here?' but very few. the set ended with standard applause and human traffic. as i stepped out into the rock city air i decided this was the last stp show i'll ever pay for.

setlist:

vasoline
crackerman
wicked garden
hollywood bitch
between the lines
hickory dichotomy
big empty
sour girl
creep
plush
interstate love song
bagman
huckleberry crumble
sex type thing
dead and bloated
lounge fly
piece of pie
trippin' on a hole in a paper heart

THE DEAD WEATHER NEW ALBUM [05.11.10]

less than a year has passed since the dead weather released their fantastic debut album 'horehound' and jack white and co. are ready to drop a new record on warner bros./third man records titled: 'sea of cowards' the preliminary reviews are mixed. even jack is [proudly?] displaying a handful of negative reviews of the new material on his blog.
the full length video for 'die by the drop' was posted early on a few video hosting sites around the interweb. those sites were graciously served infringement warnings from WBR within hours. luckily i was able to watch it once before it was pulled. but don't worry kiddies!! you can download that sweetness on april 6th from itunes.
maintaining the release info... you can pre-order a 7" single of 'die by the drop' at the third man records online store starting tomorrow. the full album is released on may 11th in the USA. [one day earlier in the UK]

DEFTONES NEW ALBUM [05.04.10]

sacramento, ca's own deftones are dropping a new album on may 4th 2010. this is their sixth full-length release following 2006's 'saturday night wrist' and the first recorded with bassist sergio vega [ex-quicksand]. [vega replaced original bassist chi cheng after a car accident in 2008 which left chi in a coma] chino and co. utilized the producing skills of nick raskulinecz on this recording. the first single is 'rocket skates' followed by 'diamond eyes'. both are currently available as cd singles or itunes downloads. there will also be a limited edition 7" single of 'rocket skates' released on record store day. the b-side will contain a remix. i don't have much info on the album release formats as of right now. but the way warner bros. has been operating as of late, i expect a nice vinyl treatment...
